Common errors in English: Usage of Take and Give

Take and Give


Incorrect : Students are giving an examination.  


Correct : Students are taking an examination.


Incorrect : The teacher will take a test. 


Correct : The teacher will give us a test.


Incorrect : I shall give a bath.


Correct : I shall take/have a bath, Or I shall give my baby a bath.


Incorrect : I shall now give a walk. 


Correct : I shall now take a walk.


Incorrect : The garden gave my fancy. 


Correct : The garden took my fancy.


Note: "Took my fancy" means attracted or delighted me.
