Common error in English: Usage of Put and Keep

 Put and Keep


Incorrect : Which bank do you put your money in?


Correct : Which bank do you keep your money in?


Incorrect : He kept the box on the chair and heaved a sigh of relief.


Correct : He put the box on the chair and heaved a sigh of relief.


Note: You put something somewhere for a short time but keep something somewhere for a longer period of time. “Keep” is connected with a more or less permanent resting place.
