Common error in English: Usage of Laugh and Smile

Laugh and Smile

Incorrect: He was smiling very loudly.

Correct : He was laughing very loudly.

Incorrect : She laughed at me in a friendly fashion.

Correct : She smiled at me in a friendly fashion.

Note : When you smile, you make a facial expression of happiness. But when you laugh, you produce sounds with the voice at the time of smiling. You cannot laugh at anyone in a friendly fashion. To laugh at somebody is to treat them as foolish.
