Common errors in English: Usage of The Police

 The Police


Incorrect : The police has caught the murderer.


Correct : The police have caught the murderer.


Note: The police refers to an official body of men and women. So this noun is plural and takes a plural verb. If you refer to any one member of the body, you should say a policeman or a policewoman.
