Common errors in English: Usage of All

All


Incorrect: Nothing is left; all are lost. 


Correct : Nothing is left; all is lost.


Incorrect : All that glitters are not gold. 


Correct : All that glitters is not gold.


Incorrect : Nobody was absent; all was present.


Correct : Nobody was absent; all were present.


Note: All meaning everything takes a singular verb but all meaning everybody takes a plural verb.
