Common errors in English: Usage of Tear and Tear up

Tear and Tear up


Incorrect : I tore up my sleeve on a thorn. 


Correct : I tore my sleeve on a thorn.


Incorrect : He was angry and tore the letter. 


Correct : He was angry and tore up the letter.


Note: You can tear anything intentionally or unintentionally. But when you tear anything up, you intentionally destroy it by tearing.
