Common errors in English: Usage of Live and Dwell

Live and Dwell


Incorrect : We cannot dwell without food. 


Correct : We cannot live without food.


Incorrect : He dwells a life of luxury. 


Correct : He lives a life of luxury.


Note: "Live' can be used both intransitively and transitively. It means "have life" or "pass one's life". It can be used in many ways. But "dwell" has a very limited use. It always means "live in a place'. In literary use, you can write:


The wise man was dwelling in the mountains.


You can also use 'live' in this sentence.
