Common errors in English: Usage of Persuade and Pursued

 Persuade and Pursued


Incorrect : Try to pursued them to come with us.  


Correct : Try to persuade them to come with us.


Incorrect : The police persuade the escaped prisoner. 


Correct : The police pursued the escaped prisoner.


Note: “Persuade' is the infinitive form of a verb. Its meaning is shown in the preceding item. (See 456). But "pursued" is the past form of the verb" pursue' which means “to follow'.
