Common errors in English: Usage of Dust and Cover with dust

Dust and Cover with dust

Incorrect : A sandstorm dusted our clothes.

Correct : A sandstorm covered our clothes with dust.

Note: Contrary to your guesswork, “dust' means “to remove dust from'. You can say:

I dust my room every day.

This means that you clean your room every day by removing the dust. Obviously, “dust” does not mean "cover with dust'. Similarly, "skin' as a verb means “to remove the skin from'. For example:

She is skinning the onions.
