Common errors in English: Usage of After and Afterwards (Different Between After and Afterwards)

After and Afterwards


Incorrect : After we went there. 


Correct : Afterwards we went there.


Incorrect : We reached there afterwards the sun had set. 


Correct : We reached there after the sun had set. 


Note : Afterwards is an adverb and after can be used as a preposition or conjunction. For example, we reached there after sunset. (preposition)
