Common errors in English: Usage of Bring and Fetch

 Bring and Fetch


Incorrect : When you come here, fetch me a glass of water. 


Correct : When you come here, bring me a glass of water.

 

Incorrect : Could you bring me a book from my reading room?


Correct : Could you fetch me a book from my reading room?


Note: “To fetch' means “to go and get from another place and bring back”. “Fetch me a book from my reading room” means “Go into my reading room, get a book and bring it to me'.
