Correct usage of English:3

If two subjects are of different numbers, then    different forms of ‘to be’ or ‘have’ auxiliaries should be used.

Error: Two boys were / intelligent but / a boy dull.

And the correct sentence should be:

Two boys were intelligent but a boy was dull.
