Common errors in English: Usage of Beside and Besides

Beside and Besides


Incorrect : The lady sat besides me. 


Correct : The lady sat beside me.


Incorrect : We studied French beside English. 


Correct : We studied French besides English.


Note: “Beside' means “by the side of", whereas “besides' means 'in addition to’.
