Common errors in English: Usage of Name of a colour

 Name of a colour


Incorrect: The green is a lovely colour. 

Correct : Green is a lovely colour.


Incorrect : I am fond of the white. 

Correct : I am fond of white.


Note: When ‘green', 'white' "blue' etc are used as nouns, they are not preceded by an article. But when they are used as adjectives, they may take articles before them. For example:


It is a green leaf. 

The blue shirt is mine.
