Common errors in English: Usage of For and At (Price)

 For and At (Price) 


Incorrect: I bought these shoes at 500 taka. 


Correct : I bought these shoes for 500 taka.


Incorrect : You can't buy it for such a price. 


Correct : You can't buy it at such a price.


Note: “For' is used when the actual price is mentioned and “at” is used when the actual sum is not mentioned. But if the weight or measure follows the price, “at” may be used with the actual sum. For example:


The cloth will be sold at 50 taka a meter.
