Common errors in English: Usage of Illusion and Delusion

Illusion and Delusion

Incorrect: The sun appears to go round the earth, but this is a delusion.

Correct : The sun appears to go round the earth, but this is an illusion.

Incorrect: He suffered from the illusion that he was a king.

Correct : He suffered from the delusion that he was a king.

Note: An illusion is something which people might reasonably believe to be true, but is in fact false. A delusion is something which is believed to be true (perhaps by one person only) but is obviously false.
