Common errors in English: Usage of Liable and Likely

Liable and Likely


Incorrect: He is likely to shout when he gets angry.


Correct : He is liable to shout when he gets angry.


Incorrect : The bus is liable to be late today. 


Correct : The bus is likely to be late today.


Note: You should use liable when you talk about general characteristics and likely is used when you think that there is a possibility of something to happen on a particular occasion.
