Incorrect : This grocer has a lot of clients. 


Correct : This grocer has a lot of customers.


Incorrect : The lawyer has a lot of customers. 


Correct : The lawyer has a lot of clients.


Note: One who buys anything at a shop is a customer, whereas one who gets help and advice from a professional person is his/her client.
