Common errors in English: Usage of Gradually and By and by

 Gradually and By and by


Incorrect : The baby is learning to walk by and by.


Correct : The baby is learning to walk gradually.


Incorrect : You will forget him gradually.


Correct : You will forget him by and by.


Note: "Gradually' means slowly or little by little, whereas "by and by” means "before long'.
