Amount and Number
Incorrect : He spent a large number of money.
Correct : He spent a large amount of money.
Incorrect : She made a large amount of mistakes.
Correct : She made a large number of mistakes.
Note: Amount is usually used with uncountable nouns and number with plural countable nouns. However, when you talk about goods handled in large quantities you can use amount with plurals. For example:
He had a large amount of apples in his shop.
