Common errors in English: Usage of Room and Place

Room and Place

Incorrect : There's place for four people on the back seat.

Correct : There's room for four people on the back seat.

Incorrect : Could you keep my room in the queue?

Correct : Could you keep my place in the queue?

Note: Room in the correct sentence above means “space that could be filled”. You can't use place in this sense. On the other hand, place in the correct sentence refers to a particular position. Room cannot be used in this sense either.
