Rare and Scarce
Incorrect : He has a collection of scarce books.
Correct : He has a collection of rare books.
Incorrect : Potatoes were rare last winter.
Correct : Potatoes were scarce last winter.
Note: Things that are uncommon and perhaps valuable are rare. Ordinary useful things that we have not got enough of are scarce.
