Common errors in English: Usage of Large and Great

Large and Great


Incorrect : This shirt is too great for me.


Correct : This shirt is too large for me.


Incorrect : Shakespeare was a large dramatist. 


Correct : Shakespeare was a great dramatist.


Note: Large refers to size only. Great means famous or important, when used of people. When used of things, great means large and impressive. For example:


It's a great building.


You can use great also before uncountable nouns. For example:


He showed great courage.
