Common errors in English: Usage of A and An

 A and An


Incorrect: He bought a umbrella yesterday. 


Correct : He bought an umbrella yesterday.


Incorrect: It has been raining for a hour. 


Correct . It has been raining for an hour.


Incorrect : There is an university in Alan.


Correct : There is a university in Alan.


Note : "An' is used before a vowel or a silent “h” (as in hour, heir, honest). If the vowel “U” is pronounced like you', we use “a” before it.
