Common errors in English: Usage of Listen to Something.

Listen to something 


Incorrect : I was listening his song.


Correct : I was listening to his song.


Incorrect : She never listens my advice. 


Correct : She never listens to my advice.


Note: "Hear” means simply "to receive any sound with the ears.' It can be used as a transitive verb. For

example: 


I heard a funny noise.


But "listen' means "to give attention in hearing anything” or "to hear or consider with thoughtful attention.” It is an intransitive verb. It can be used with or without a preposition after it. The following sentence is without a preposition: 


I warned him not to do it but he wouldn't listen.
