Common errors in English: Usage of Knock on/at.

Knock on/at

Incorrect : Who is knocking the door?

Correct : Who is knocking on/at the door?

Note: Only “to knock' without a preposition means 'to hit hard'. For example:

Don't knock the glass; it's fragile.

But “to knock on/at a door” means "to hit a door firmly with one's hand to inform the people inside of one's presence.”
