Common errors in English: Usage of Across and Over

 Across and Over

The prepositions “across” and “over” are both used to show movement from one side to another. For example:

She drove across/over the bridge. But -

Incorrect : She climbed across the fence.

Correct : She climbed over the fence.

Incorrect : He walked over the stage.

Correct : He Walked across the stage.

Note: “Over" is used when there is an idea of crossing something high, whereas 'across' is used when you refer to crossing a level surface.
