Common errors in English: Usage of Intransitive infinitive + preposition

 Intransitive infinitive + preposition

Incorrect: They have no house to live.

Correct: They have no house to live in.

Incorrect : There is no chair to sit.

Correct : There is no chair to sit on.

Note: If the infinitive in the above construction is of an intransitive verb, it must have a preposition after it.

But when the infinitive is of a transitive verb, it does not take any preposition. For example:

I have no money to spend.
