Correct : I play the violin, but not the piano.
Incorrect: Do you know how to play guitar?
Correct: Do you know how to play the guitar?
Note: The definite article "the" should be used before the name of a musical instrument, when you talk about playing it. Otherwise you can say:
This is a guitar.
