Abstract noun
Incorrect : The honesty is the best policy.
Correct : Honesty is the best policy,
Incorrect : The courage is a great virtue.
Correct : Courage is a great virtue.
Note: When an abstract noun is used in a general sense, it does not take any article before it. But when it is used in a particular sense, it requires the article. For example:
The honesty/bravery of these people is praise-worthy.
