“Up' does not mean “upstairs'
Incorrect : “Where is he?” “He is up.”
Correct : "Where is he?" "He is upstairs."
Note: The expression “He is up” means "He is out of bed”. Therefore, it cannot be an answer to the question, “where is he?” “He is upstairs” means that he is on the upper floor of the building.-
