Under, Below and Beneath
Incorrect : His money bag was below the bed.
Correct : His money bag was under the bed.
Incorrect : There is a lake under the village.
Correct : There is a lake below the village.
Note: "Under” is the most common word when one thing is directly under another thing. You can use “beneath' in place of “under' but it is mostly used in literary language and may suggest that the two objects are not close to each other. For example:
They walked together beneath the summer moon.
"Below” suggests that one thing is in a lower position than another. You can also use 'underneath' instead of "under” to emphasize the idea of covering or hiding.
