Common errors in English: Usage of Fill + object

Fill + object 


Incorrect : She filled in the jug with water. 


Correct : She filled the jug with water.


Note : Here “fill” means “make full". The preposition after it in this case is unnecessary. But “fill in” is a phrasal verb which means “to put in what is needed to complete something”. For example:


Please fill in this application form.
