Common errors in English: Usage of Do + base form in negatives

Do + base form in negatives


Incorrect: He understands not the problem. 


Correct : He does not understand the problem.


Incorrect : She helped not me. 


Correct : She did not help me.


Note: The different forms of “do” are also used as auxiliary verbs before the principal verb in forming negative sentences in the present and past simple tenses.
