Common errors in English: Usage of All other.

All other

Incorrect : Homer was greater than all the Greek poets.

Correct : Homer was greater than all other Greek poets.

Note: Since Homer himself was a Greek poet, the phrase 'all the Greek poets' includes him. So the first sentence above suggests that he is greater than himself. This suggestion is not logically acceptable. The second sentence suggests that Homer was greater than all other poets of Greece.
