Few and A few
Incorrect : Though the test was easy, a few boys passed it.
Correct : Though the test was easy, few boys passed it.
Incorrect : Though the test was tough, few boys passed it.
Correct : Though the test was tough, a few boys passed it.
Note: Both few and a few are used before plural nouns. Few means not many and emphasizes the smallness of the number. It is different from a few which means at least some. It has a negative connotation, whereas "a few" has a positive connotation.
