Common errors in English: Usage of Shall and May/Can

Shall and May/Can

To seek permission:

Incorrect : Shall I shut the window?

Correct : Can/May I shut the window?

Note: “May/can I shut the window?" means that I want the window to be shut and I ask your permission to shut it. But “Shall I shut the window?" means that I want to know whether you want me to shut the window.
