Common errors in English: Usage of Fell and Felled

 Fell and Felled


Incorrect : He felled down and broke his knee.


Correct : He fell down and broke his knee.


Incorrect : The wood-cutter fell down a tree. 


Correct : The wood-cutter felled down a tree.


Note: "Fell” is the past tense of “fall” and its past participle is “fallen'. On the other hand, “felled' is the past tense of the verb “fell” which means “cut down”. Its past participle is also “felled”.
