Incorrect : Let's have a play of cards.
Correct : Let's have a game of cards.
Incorrect : Football is a popular play.
Correct : Football is a popular game.
Incorrect : The children are at game.
Correct : The children are at play.
Note : You should not use play in the sense of game. Game is a countable noun which means 'a form of play or sport’. Play is an uncountable noun when it means amusement.
