Common errors in English: Usage of Pair and Couple

 Pair and Couple

Incorrect : I bought a couple of shoes.

Correct : I bought a pair of shoes.

Incorrect : They are a nice pair.

Correct : They are a nice couple.

Incorrect : Can you lend me a pair of dollars?

Correct : Can you lend me a couple of dollars?

Note: A pair is a set of two things which are not usually used separately. "Couple' may mean two things of the same kind. But it also means husband and wife. It also means “a few” in informal English.
