Common errors in English: Usage of Bad and Badly

 Bad and Badly


Incorrect : The milk has gone badly. 


Correct : The milk has gone bad.


Incorrect : I have done bad in the exam. 


Correct : I have done badly in the exam.


Note : An adjective modifies a noun and an adverb modifies a verb. In the first example, the noun "milk' should be modified and in the second example the verb "have done’ should be modified.
