Common error in English: Usage of Older and Elder

 Older and Elder

Incorrect . This building is elder than that one.

Correct : This building is older than that one.

Incorrect : My older brother is a doctor.

Correct : My elder brother is a doctor.

Note : 'Older’ refers to both persons and things but 'elder’ refers to persons only and is used of related persons. Again, elder cannot be followed by ‘than’.

Incorrect: Zinnia is elder than Alan.

Correct : Zinnia is older than Alan.

But you can say:
