Convince and Persuade
Incorrect : We were finally able to persuade them of our innocence.
Correct : We were finally able to convince them of our innocence,
Incorrect: I could not convince her to go out with me.
Correct : I could not persuade her to go out with me.
Note: “To convince' means to make someone believe, whereas "to persuade' means to make a person agree to do something. In formal English, however, these two verbs can be used interchangeably. For example:
We could not persuade/convince the police that he was not guilty of the murder.
