Common errors in English: Usage of Pronominal object after a phrasal transitive verb

Pronominal object after a phrasal transitive verb

Incorrect: The fan is moving very fast; please turn down it.

Correct: The fan is moving very fast; please turn it down.

Note: "Turn down' is a transitive phrasal verb. Its nominal object can be used both after and before the adverbial particle. For example:

He turned down the fan. Or He turned the fan down.

But when the object is a pronoun, it cannot be used after the adverbial particle. The pronominal object always comes before the adverbial particle of the phrasal verb.
