Common errors in English: Usage of Point to/at something

Point to/at something

Incorrect : He pointed the map on the wall.

Correct. He pointed to/at the map on the wall.

Note: "To point at/to' means "to draw attention to something by holding out a finger or a long pointed thing towards it.” But "To point' (without any preposition after it) means "to direct". For example:

You shouldn't point a gun if you don't mean to fire it.
