Common errors in English: Usage of Grasp + object

Incorrect : I could not grasp at the point. 


Correct : I could not grasp the point.


Note: Here ‘grasp' means ‘succeed in understanding’. But 'grasp at’ is a phrasal verb which means ‘try to take or hold’. You can Say:  


He grasped at every opportunity that came to him.
