Wish + Past simple
Incorrect : I would wish to be a bird.
Correct : I wish I were/was a bird.
Note: In sentences like this ‘were’ is more common than ‘was’. ‘Was’ is used in British informal English. But in American English it would be considered bad English to use was in this type of sentence.
