meaning and usage of Idioms and phrases-2

1)Throw One Off The Scent-to misdirect one away from their pursuit, to steer one's investigation or suspicions in the wrong direction-
That outlier data threw me off the scent for a while, but I think my research is back on track now.

2)A Kick In theTeeth/stomach/guts-something that makes you feel very disappointed or upset, especially when you have been trying hard to achieve something-

He described the court's decision as a kick in the teeth to the people of the nation.

3)All Eyes Are on Someone/something-everyone is paying close attention to someone or something-

All eyes will be on the Chancellor tomorrow when he gives his Budget speech.

4)Make The Papers-to be featured in news articles in newspapers, as due to being particularly important, popular, fashionable, etc-

The pop star made the papers yesterday after his latest run-in with police.

5)Raise One's Spirits-to make one feel happier or more carefree-

I love my roommate. No matter what mood I'm in, he is always able to raise my spirits.

6)At One's Fingertips-easily or conveniently accessed, accomplished, or achieved-

Because the Internet is so easy to access these days, we have every resource imaginable at our fingertips!

7)Horse And Rabbit Stew-a situation comprised of both crude or unpleasant things as well as those which are pleasing or beneficial, usually with the former in greater proportion to the latter-

The company's growth plan is little more than horse and rabbit stew, with a few good measures greatly outweighed by the planned expenditure.

8)Not Have A Hope In Hell-to have no possibility of doing or achieving something-

We were so outclassed - we didn't have a hope in hell of winning.

9)Honours Are Even-both sides are equally matched; the contest is equal or level; neither side has been victorious-

At the end of an amazing game, honours are even between these two teams.

10)Honorable Mention-a recognition or citation of merit given to a contestant, exhibition, entry, etc., in a competition despite that person or thing not being awarded a prize or top honor-

My short story did not win a top place in the writing competition, but being given an honorable mention still gives me great pride.
