Speak and Tell
Incorrect : He spoke a lie.
Correct : He told a lie.
Incorrect : Do you tell English?
Correct : Do you speak English?
Note: You can speak/tell the truth but for a lie only “tell” is used. “He speaks English" means that he is able to talk in English.
