Common errors in English: Usage of Infinitive of purpose.

Infinitive of Purpose 


Incorrect : He went there for learning English. 


Correct . He went there to learn English.


Note: The purpose of an action is usually expressed by the infinitive, and not by the gerund. “For + gerund” usually expresses a cause. 


For example:

He was punished for telling a lie.
